Basketball great, best-selling author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar coming to Attucks Theatre

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a towering figure in sports and now the literary world, is coming to Norfolk’s Attucks Theatre in 2019.

The Nov. 1 event is part of the historic African-American theater’s 100th anniversary celebration.

The former UCLA and Los Angeles Lakers star is a New York Times best-selling author known for his social and political commentary. He’s published 14 books and is a regular contributor for The Guardianand The Hollywood Reporter.

He also currently serves as the chairman for his Skyhook Foundation, which gives a nod to his signature basketball shot. The organization’s mission is “Give Kids a Shot That Can’t be Blocked,” setting up STEM education opportunities for underserved communities.

Other artists coming to the Attucks in 2019 include pianist Ellis Marsalis and “Saturday Night Live” comedian Leslie Jones.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 15. Tickets will be available at vafest.org and ticketmaster.com.
