Bill O’Reilly tonight sounded off on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Time Magazine column on Islam.
Abdul-Jabbar, who converted to Islam 47 years ago, wants Americans to understand that Islam is not the problem; he says that vicious individuals who have perverted the religion are the issue.
“That theory has some major problems,” O’Reilly said.
“Knowing that these terrorist attacks are not about religion, we have to reach a point where we stop bringing Islam into these discussions. I know we aren’t there yet because much of the Western population doesn’t understand the Islamic religion.”
O’Reilly agreed with this point, but he added that “much of the Muslim world apparently does not understand the Islamic religion.” He explained that Pakistan allows the Taliban sanctuary because the Pakistani government believes that’s permissible under Islam. He also noted that Turkey won’t help the West fight ISIS on its border.
“Does Islam condone the beheading of innocent people? Doesn’t the Koran state that a good Muslim protects the innocent and fights against injustice?” O’Reilly questioned. “Apparently the Turkish government does not understand the Islamic religion either.”
